Content

What should be on it?

We'll be dealing with content in more detail a little further along, but in the planning stage it's important to list all of the things you want your site to contain. For example, you might have a list that looks something like this:

  • contact details
  • services provided
  • pricing information
  • links to related sites
  • staff profiles
  • latest news & archive of previous news items
  • bulletin board and/or chat room

This list may well change before you make the site - there are a few things on this list that I'd certainly ditch in favour of non-site-based alternatives. An on-site chat room, for example, is a total waste of time unless you have HUGE traffic on your site. You're far better off to use a private room at one of the public chat sites (such as yahoo), or to use an Instant Messenger to tell when your "buddies" are online. But putting it on your list at least makes you think about it while you're making the site.
